The Ladies International Poker Series (LIPS) is truly dedicated to supporting women in poker. With sponsorship support from CardPlayer Magazine and Binion’s Casino in Las Vegas, the original home of the World Series of Poker (WSOP), The LIPS team, led by Lupe Soto, founded the Women in Poker Hall of Fame on May 1, 2007. The Woman in Poker Hall of Fame is “designed to honor women in poker who have acquired prominence and who also have made contributions to the poker world.”
Membership, according to its charter, “is comprised of any person who is interested in poker as a professional or recreational player, or a career in the poker industry.” The cost of an annual membership is $75.00 and it offers the opportunity to attend the inaugural induction ceremony and luncheon to be held at Binion’s in Las Vegas on February 2, 2008 at 11 am. Mike Sexton, the ‘poker ambassador’ and WPT commentator, is slated to be the Master of Ceremonies and Jan Fisher, one of the original chicks with chips, has signed on to be a special guest speaker.
Names of the ladies who will be inducted into the Women in Poker Hall of Fame will be released at a later date. However, we’re pretty sure that women such as Wendeen Eolis, Barbara Johnson and Susie Isaacs will be featured on that list.
Members attending the event will also be entered into a special freeroll on February 3, 2008. For more information, head on over to the Women in Poker Hall of Fame’s official web site.
