The WSOP Is Over - What Does a Poker Player Do Now?
August 17, 2006 -
The World Series of Poker has been over for about a week now. The poker world isn't nearly as exciting as it has been for the last several months. It's like Christmas came and went - and someone else picked up the major gifts - namely, Jamie Gold the $12 million kid. It's enough to depress any poker player.
What do you do now that the World Series of Poker is over? Does it mean it's time to go out and (GASP) get a new hobby? Perhaps, it means you should spend more time with the family (DOUBLE GASP!).
Before you throw away your poker chips sets and dump the internet poker sites into the recycle bin icon on your 'puter, consider your options. There is hope for the many people afflicted with WSOP Slump!
The doctor is in!
Here are a few suggestions to get your rump out of the WSOP slump:
- Poker Stars is gearing up for its 5th annual WCOOP (World Championships of Online Poker). The buy-ins are a fraction of a cost of a a World Series Event...and...you can compete with world class competition from home IN YOUR JAMMIES!
- Consider the World Poker Tour. Some of the biggest names in the game have been boycotting it. That's good news for you, right? The Borgata Poker Open is coming up in September. PaddyPowerPoker is holding a Super Satellite on the 26th.
- Watch the Professional Poker Tour on the Travel Channel. The PPT features pros like Daniel Negreanu and Huck Seed. Just sitting on the couch and viewing their moves has to help you improve your game! The PPT airs Wednesday nights at 9pm EST.
- If you love poker on TV and really are craving the WSOP, ESPN will be showing snippets from many of the events beginning on August 22nd - less than a week away! For more info on that, visit: http://sports.espn.go.com/espntv/espnShow?showID=GMPO
There is hope. And where there is hope, there is poker!
