Women in Poker Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony

Susie Isaacs, Barbara Enright, Linda Johnson and Marsha Waggoner were inducted into the Women in Poker Hall of Fame (WIPHOF) on Saturday February 2, 2008. The WIPHOF is the brainchild of Lupe Soto, the lady behind the LIPS Tour and a group of talented and driven chicks with chips. At 11 am on Saturday the induction ceremony got underway at Binion’s Bullpen at the Binion’s Casino in downtown Las Vegas. Mike Sexton played host and emcee.
According to Kenna James, who was in attendance with is lovely wife, Marsha Waggoner, a “beautifully done” slide show got things started. The ladies were shown in various stages of their careers and lives. Afterwards, a nice lunch was provided. Then, the ladies were inducted after an introduction highlighting their personal and professional accomplishments. Each inductee was given a bouquet of yellow roses, which added a great touch.
Industry icons such as Jack McClelland, Barry Schulman, Matt Savage, JJ Lieu and Kathy Liebert joined the ladies in the celebration. Induction into the WIPHOF includes contributions not just to the game but also the industry of poker.
To be eligible for induction in the WIPHOF, candidates must:
- Be active poker players or industry leaders for at least fifteen years prior to their induction.
- Contribute to the world of poker in a significant way either by winning major tournaments or making “significant contributions to the industry of poker.”
- Be a proponent of women’s poker. She needn’t play in women-only events, but she must support them.
