World Championship Poker 2 with Howard Lederer

January 27, 2006

World Championship Poker 2 was yet another holiday gift in the Goodson household in 2005. This game is not quite as good as the World Series of Poker game, in my opinion. The graphics are okay. It's easy enough to play. But...

There's something missing. Maybe it's the silly tips. Some of them are useful; but, do we really need to know this one: WHEN PLAYING WITH POKER CHIPS, TRY NOT TO RUB YOUR EYES OR TOUCH YOUR FACE. CHIPS CAN GET DIRTY. Thanks, grandma. I'll keep that in mind.

The good news - you get to play against pros like Howard Lederer, Annie Duke, Greg Raymer, Paul Darden and Clonie Gowen. You can create your own player for both online and offline play. To play online - you have to have a network adapter. My character is a hard rock chick with black hair. She's heavyset and has an outspoken personality. She's NOTHING like me (hehehe - yeah right!).

This game, brought to you by Crave Entertainment, has the following brands of poker:

Texas Hold Em
Omaha
Omaha 8/b
7 Card Stud
7 Card Stud 8/b
Razz A-5
Razz 2-7
Pineapple
Crazy Pineapple
5 Card Draw
Lowball A-5
Lowball A-5 Triple Draw
Lowball 2-7
Lowball 2-7 Triple Draw

There are tutorials which teach you how to play each game. Commentary is done by Matt Savage. I also like the fact that there's a pawn shop where you can buy and sell items. You can even get a loan to jumpstart your bankroll. In quickplay, you can just play a regular tourney with just about any type of game. It's a one-table tourney. I prefer the regular mode which has games all over the world. You start off in a $200 buy-in N/L Holdem game. If you mee the goal of earning $75 in the game (IN ADDITION TO YOUR BUY-IN), you move on to the next level. The games take place all over the world and feature different brands of poker.

Overall, World Championship Poker 2 a good game that will help you practice different brands of poker. It's not my favorite poker video game out there - but it's certainly worth a rental if not a purchase. Check it out and judge for yourself.
