Top Ten Lady Poker Players of 2007 – Vanessa Rousso
December 30, 2007 - Deanna Goodson
Vanessa Rousso fits in poker between classes at the University of Miami Law School, one of the top law schools in the United States. The Duke graduate also finds time to teach game theory with the WPT Academy.
Did we mention that she’s a high-ranking tournament player? Rousso scored big online this summer taking second place in the World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) Main Event, earning more than three-quarters of a million dollars. The Poker Stars sponsored pro has also finished strong on the WPT , finishing twelfth in the Gulf Coast Poker Championship.
A fixture on NBC’s “Poker After Dark”, Rousso finished seventeenth at the World Series of Poker Circuit event in Grand Tunica last January and came in second at the Ultimate Poker Challenge championship in Las Vegas.
Once she finishes law school, we’re sure she’ll have more time to devote to the game. We can’t wait to see what kind of results she’ll put up in 2008, can you?
In this clip, Rousso talks about how tournament survival doesn’t mean playing tight:
