Tony G won the inaugural event of the Betfair Asian Poker Tour. The talented and talkative Australian liked his chances. He usually does. Tony G is not shy nor does he lack confidence. Love him or hate him, Tony G knows he's a good poker player. After his impressive win at the Betfair Asian Poker Tour, maybe the rest of the world will sit up and finallyl notice.
Tony showed he does indeed have a softer side. After winning the BAPT, he announced he's giving away half of his prize money to charities in Australia and Asia. He said, "I want people to know that poker is sport. This is not a large amount compared to what people like Bill Gates give to charity but it is a gesture to show that it's not all about the money, it's about the competition as well."
Tony gave the second-place finisher, Singaporean Joshua Ang the Merlion trophy he won for first place. Tony did this because, as he said, he felt that the trophy should "stay in Singapore." Betfair has already announced there will be a BAPT again next year. We can't wait!
Kudos to Tony G for his impressive win and his generosity. Who knew he was so nice?
The final table went down like this:
* Tony Guoga, $451,700
* Joshua Ang, $233,200
* Lee Nelson, $116,600
* Samuel Lehtonen, $102,000
* Jeff Kimber, $87,400
* Mark Whent, $72,900
* Hans Vogl, $58,306
* Hendrik Dahlgaard, $43,700
* Brendan Walls, $29,200
* Neil Yong, $17,500
