The Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) is dedicated to helping armed forces veterans with spinal cord injury or dysfunction. The congressionally-chartered service organization was founded in 1946. The PVA will hold its first-ever charity poker tournament in Washington, DC, on February 5, 2008.
Mike Sexton, WPT commentator and 2008 WSOP Tournament of Champions Winner, will emcee the event. Expected to attend are former Senate Majority Leader Robert J. Dole, talk show host, Montel Williams, and NASCAR Driver Richard Petty. These three gentlemen will serve as honorary committee members.
Tickets cost $1,000. According to the PVA website, “the purpose of this event is to raise awareness and critical funds needed to continue the vital work of Paralyzed Veterans' mission.” Featuring a poker clinic, reception dinner and silent auction as well as the tournament, the event guarantees some fantastic prizes including:
- One entry to the 2008 World Poker Tour (WPT) in Los Angeles, California
- Trip to Richard Petty’s Driving Experience (including RT airfare and hotel accommodations)
- Trip to Las Vegas, NV (including RT airfare and hotel accommodations)
- Trip to Orlando, FL (including RT airfare, hotel accommodations and (4) tickets to Disney World)
The event begins at 6pm and takes place at the J.W. Marriott at 1331 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW.
