Lisa Santy Wins the Diamond Derby
September 06, 2007 - Deanna Goodson
In early August, twenty six ladies played for seven hours plus at Hollywood Park. Each wanted to come away from the Diamond Derby a winner. With 2000 starting chips and blinds going up every 30 minutes, the gals had a lot of time to get to know each other.
Around mid-day, they broke to partake of the lovely luncheon.
Even the final table was friendly. The last three ladies in the tournament - Lisa Santy, Darlene Springman and Andrea Henry - agreed to a by the chips chop while still playing on for the LIPS Tour crown.
Springman, who recently finished second at the LIPS Legends of Poker event at the Bike, had the chip lead at the time of the deal. She made first-place money for her eventual third-place finish. Andrea Henry, who also made the final table at the LOP LIPS event, finished in second place.
The win went to Lisa Santy, who was third in chips when the deal was struck. Santy, a customer service rep for a bicycle company, has been playing poker for less than six months. She won her way into the Ladies NLHE Championship at the 2007 WSOP this summer, finishing in 70th place and earning over $3,000 there.
Here are the cash results for the Diamond Derby tournament:
1) Darlene Springman - $1,100
2) Andrea Henry - $930
3) Lisa Santy - $595
4) Ivonne Ulloa - $410
5) Vivian Kim - $270
