Poker Stars Sunday Tournament Report – 7.29.07
July 31, 2007 - Deanna GoodsonSunday was a record-breaking day for Poker Stars. The online giant increased their entry allotment to 20,000 for the bargain-basement Sunday Hundred Grand tournament. It was a good thing too because all of those slots were filled at the start of the biggest online tournament in history. PokerStars, of course, beat its own record of 17,501, which was also set in this same tournament just two weeks back.
The eventual winner, a gal who uses the handle Lynna1, took down $20,000 for her efforts.
These are the final table results:
1) Lynna1 - $20,000.00
2) henrybourbon - $10,000.00
3) steeldawgs - $6,500.00
4) laststand77 - $5,000.00
5) Heien - $3,000.00

The High Stakes Showdown was dominated by folks from the United States. Three of the top-four finishers hail from the land of the UIGEA. However, the top spot belonged to a Finnish player who calls himself Lrslzk. Lrslzk earned $72,000 for the win in the shootout event. ActionJeff took home $40,000 while adsanman12 and Rekrul were sitting pretty with $24,000 each.
The Sunday Million held its monthly $530 entry-fee spectacular. Over 3,000 folks paid to play in this event, driving up the total prize pool to a whopping $1,510,500. 486 players made bank. Greg Raymer, aka ‘Fossilman’, made it deep into the tournament. The 2004 WSOP Main Event champ and Poker Stars sponsored pro finished 42nd winning over $4500 for his efforts.
It took over ten hours for the final nine to make their way to the final table. As the action got underway, plasticard held the top spot with 8.4 million chips. nazeehah66 was the short stack going on. As a result, he finished in ninth position after moving all-in with pocket fives against Finnish player Pehtoori’s pocket rockets.
Oddly enough on the next hand, plasticard cracked fundmyaudi’s pocket rockets with a Q,7 of clubs on a rivered back-door flush. Me-ouch! This suck-out sent fundmyaudi to the rail faster than you can say, well, fundmyaudi. He earned almost $20,000 for eighth place. That’ll go a long way towards funding just about anything, right?
asdf2000 headed out the door next with big slick in hand. Earlier he made a curious call with a 4,5 off-suit. This prompted GARBANZITO, who hails from Mexico, to see his raise with a Qd,Jh. A queen spiked on the flop and ousted asdf200.
Xaston was the next eliminated when his A,8 failed to improve against Pehtoori’s dominant A,10. He announced good game to the remaining players and pocketed his $43,805 for sixth place.
The five players still in the hunt decided to talk chop a few times. Unfortunately, they couldn’t agree on the terms. plasticard, who was the chip leader when the first deal was discussed, was the short stack soon after the second deal was nixed. plasticard made his final stand with Kd,9c but found himself up against it after calling lb6121’s all-in post-flop bet. lb6121 flipped over Ah,Ac. The turn and river didn’t help plasticard out.
GARBANZITO would follow plasticard out the door after agreeing to a by-the-chips-chop with an extra $30,000 for first place. (Note: due to the standings at the time this deal was made, the third-place finisher would wind up winning more than the week’s champ.) His pocket sevens lost out to the pocket tens of Pehtoori. GARBANZITO received well over six figures for his fourth-place finish.
lb6121 hit the skids next and gave Pehtoori the lead as heads-up play began. Pehtoori had 18.7 mil compared to Zutzman’s 11.5 chips. However, Zutzman would take control when his pocket nines went to the races – and won – against Pehtoori’s A,J. Within the next sixty seconds, the final hand took place. Zutzman raised 800k preflop. Pehtoori reraised to 3 million with his Ah,8h. Zutzman called and flipped up his pocket cowboys. The board came down 5h,5s,2d,6s,7h.
Here are the final table results:
1) Zutzman - $152,537.87
2) Pehtoori - $134,484.16
3) lb6121 - $157,963.52
4) GARBANZITO - $122,811.40
5) plasticard - $59,211.60
6) Xaston - $43,804.50
7) asdf2000 - $31,720.50
8) fundmyaudi - $19,938.60
9) nazeehah66 - $11,781.90
