Poker Stars Sunday Million Results – 8.26.07

The action was hot at PokerStars this weekend. The Sunday Million featured a monthly $500 + 30 buy-in. 2,644 folks paid to play in the event, making it the richest online tournament of the weekend. The total prize pool was $1,322,000, which was shared among the top 414 finishers.

As the final table began, Sir_DonaldRM held a small chip lead of 4.5 million. kaweco was nipping at his heels with 4.3 mil chips. Within ten minutes, OnlyPlayzRagz hit the rails when his K,J came up against the dominant K,Q of rk58. rk58 also claimed the next victim. He took pokerguru69 out with an A,J in the hole. pokerguru’s eighth place finish was good for $18,244.

jeffreyjjj kissed his tournament life good-bye about twenty minutes later. He semi-bluffed all-in preflop with just  a Jh,9h. Sir_DonaldRM chose to call him and flipped over the leading As,10h. Turns out that’s all he’d need to dispatch of jeffrey. The board was 5d,8h,5h,Kc,2d, missing jeffrey’s back-door flush possibility completely.

Sir_Donald was on a roll. He took out the next player, scarface_79. Then, he terminated MattZman69 not too long afterwards with a mere 6,2. His triple ducks sent Matt to the rail with $54,202 for fifth place.

rk58, who was on the short stack, went all in UTG (under the gun) with his Ad,4d. Sir_Donald woke up with an A,9 in the hole and made the call, sending yet another foe home. These KOs gave Sir_Donald a commanding chip lead when three-handed play got underway. With 17 million, he had the clear advantage against his opponents, kaweco, who had 7 million, and Egar1m with just 2.5 mil.

At this point, Sir_Donald stopped the action and suggested a by-the-chips chop with the standard $30k left for the winner. Egar ran the numbers and realized that the chop wasn’t much better for him than a third-place finish. Unless the other two would agree to add about $20k to his take, he wouldn’t agree to the deal.

Well, the other two didn’t agree to those terms so that match continued.

Egar1m then caught quad sixes, tripling up and moving into second place. kaweco then took a ton of chips back from Egar. However, kaweco would be the one to fall next. He went all-in with pocket tens against Sir_Donald’s pocket hooks. The jacks held up, and kaweco bid adieu to his colleagues in third place, receiving a respectable payday of more than $80,000.

As heads-up play got underway, Sir_Donald had a five to one lead over Egar. However, the poker gods were with Egar. He took over the chip lead. At this point, the two talked chop again. However, Egar wanted a guarantee of $200,000 regardless of where he finished. This caused Sir_Donald to ask PokerStars support to restart the game. Soon afterwards, Egar called Sir_Donald’s all-in and flipped over pocket eights. Sir_Donald was up against it with K,7 in the hole. The board came down Qd,3h,6c,4c,3c, giving Egar two-pair and the title.

Here are the final results:

1) Egar1m - $243,115.80
2) Sir_DonaldRM - $123,607
3) kaweco - $81,831.80
