Poker After Dark Began Third Season This Week
January 04, 2008 - Deanna Goodson
A New Year brings new episodes of Poker After Dark in the United States. This year, on January 1, viewers witnessed a changing of the guard (of sorts) on the popular series. Replacing Shana Hiatt is Marianela Pereyra, an Argentinian born broadcaster who has graced the pages of Maxim magazine. Dubbed the “Poker Princess”, Pereyra first came to the attention of poker aficionados during the 2007 World Series of Poker Main Event pay-per-view broadcast.
Despite that, the format remains the same with people getting to see hand after hand in special tournament match-ups.
This week, a ‘Dream Table’ is set up with Mike Matusow and Phil Hellmuth. Wait a second! That sounds like more of a nightmare to us. We mean - have you heard those two chatter away at the table?
Joining the “Mouth” and The “Poker Brat” at the table are the affable Kid Poker, Daniel Negreanu, the lovely, talented and shark-eriffic Jennifer Harman and Scotty “Prince of Poker” Nguyen. The lone amateur at the table, Ken Light has been holding his own and showing the rest of us that beating the pros can be done.
Coming up next week, PAD greets Gavin Smith and David Oppenheim. They join Phil Ivey, who is looking to win a record three Poker After Dark tournaments, Erick “E-Dog” Lindgren, Daniel Negreanu and Doyle “Texas Dolly” Brunson. The match is being called “The 19th Hole” in obvious reference to the players’ love of another game played on the green.
