Party Gaming Acquires Empire Poker

February 23, 2006

N

PartyGaming, the company behind PartyPoker, announced back in September 2005 that it would no longer allow its players to play at other skins of the brand. Empire Poker, a division of Empire Online, was one of the sites that was sorely affected by this decision.

As a result, Empire Online filed suit against PartyGaming, citing breach of contract. In February 2006, PartyGaming put an end to the dispute and purchased Empire Online outright, including all assets, databases and intellectual property regarding EmpirePoker.com and AceClub.com.

This acquisition puts an end to Party Poker skins. PartyGaming, with the launch of Blackjack (last October), is moving into different gaming territories. Whether this stategy will succeed or not, remains to be seen. Regardless, PartyGaming will announce its end of year 2005 results on February 28, 2006.
