Brett Parise Wins Poker Stars' Inaugural Asia Pacific Poker Tour Event in Manila
August 30, 2007 - Domenica DiPiero
Vanessa Rousso, Daniel Negreanu and 2005 Main Event Champ (and one of the hottest men in poker), Joe Hachem, were on hand when PokerStars landed in the Phillippines for the first leg of its Asia Pacific Poker Tour, or APPT as it's more commonly called.
The beautiful Cercada sisters, an award-winning Filipino singing group, capped off the event. 255 folks sat down to play. The lovely Rousso, a former law student and Chad Brown's galpal, bowed out halfway through Day One as did Negreanu. Hachem would make it to the dinner break -- almost. He and Negreanu would wind up playing golf the following day.
Norihito Suzuki, a Japanese national, held the dubious distinction of 'bubble man'. He was the last player to be eliminated without making bank. The final table featured a bunch of as yet unknown players including one Brett Parise, who outlasted everyone else in the event to win the APPT title.
Parise, who goes by the moniker Mr.BlueDuck at PokerStars, is a 22 year old student. The young man qualified in a free-entry tournament on PokerStars and won over $179,775, one of the biggest poker prizes ever given in Asia, for his efforts.
