Ladies Go to War at the Pahrump Nugget
December 16, 2007 - Domenica DiPiero
We just love it when women dominate at the poker table. We don’t care where it is. We adore hearing about women taking down tournaments with small prize, big prizes, no prizes or point prizes. Women rule!
Earlier this week, at the Pahrump Nugget in Nevada, two ladies duked it out for the top spot in the December World Series of Poker qualifying tournament. Players qualify for this freeroll tourney by playing forty or more hours in the previous calendar month. In February, the top thirty players on the leaderboard – folks win points depending upon where they place in the qualifiers – will receive an invite to play in the grand finale. At stake are five $2,000 seats to the 2008 WSOP.
Jackie Polansky and Nella Lawson faced each other in a grueling heads-up match. Jackie held on and defeated Nella. She received $1,000 and 10 points for her efforts. Nella took home $500 and 5 points. This places both women in the top ten. Nella has a total of 15 points and is sitting pretty in third place while Jackie just has the ten points, which is good for the tenth position, which she shares with three other players.
Patti Franzen and Jean Selzer each have one point and are currently in contention for the February grand finale.
Congrats to all the gals who are representing in Pahrump!
