Actor Nicolas Cage, nephew of famed film director Francis Ford Coppola and a superstar in his own right, is set to produce and star in a biopic about poker legend, Amarillo Slim Preston. The film is currently slated for a Christmas 2008 release.
The film is an adaptation of Preston’s book, “Amarillo Slim in a World of Fat People: The Memoirs of the Greatest Gambler Who Ever Lived.” Stephen Rivele and Christopher Wilkinson, screenwriters who previously worked on projects such as “Ali” and “Nixon”, adapted the book for the big screen.
Rumor has it that Milos Forman, director of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest" and "The People vs. Larry Flynt", is scheduled to lens the biopic.
Slim’s life was certainly an eventful one having won 4 WSOP bracelets, hitting the road with Doyle Brunson and Sailor Roberts and surviving several high-profile robbery attempts.
