Liz Lieu Makes Final Table of APPT Macau Main Event
November 28, 2007 - Deanna Goodson
Liz Lieu, the Poker Diva, is one of those chicks with chips that we absolutely love. The feared cash game player has made bank in the WSOP, the WPT and done quite well just about everywhere else. The stylish lady – you will not find this fashionista wearing sweats to the table – consistently impresses the poker world with her skill, savvy and smile.
Born in Vietnam, Lieu moved to Los Angeles rather young and made her mark on the poker community there. Earlier this year, she finished first at the $1,000 NLHE tournament at the Commerce’s LA Poker Classic. Currently sponsored by Chilipoker, the lovely lady recently moved Across the Pond where she’s hit the WSOPE and EPT Main Events.
Last week, Lieu found herself in Macau. She was there to take part in the first-ever major international poker tournament in China. Liz did rather well in the $2,500 Main Event. Joined by ladies such as Vanessa Rousso, who hit the rail on Day One, and Isabelle Mercier, who barely made it to Day Two, Lieu was the top finisher among the fairer sex. Australia’s Celina Lin, a young cutie who was born in Shanghai and plays online as ‘id4eva’, gave Lieu a run for her money. She finished in the money and is sure to be a factor at the APPT’s Grand Final next month in Sydney.
As the final table got underway, Lieu was sitting pretty in Seat Two with 384,000 chips. Simon Randall and 2005 WSOP Main Event champ Joseph Hachem hit the rails before she did. Lieu’s swan song came after moving all-in preflop with an Ah, 6d. She was called by Canadian professional gamer Guillaume Patry with – get this – a 2,7. Patry got very lucky, making trip sevens on the river to eliminate the poker diva in seventh place.
Lieu earned $32,384 and returned to do well in the High Roller event just a few days later, proving that she’s more than just a pretty face.
