Ladies at the 2008 Poker Stars Caribbean Adventure

The first major tournament of 2008 is in the record books everyone. The Poker Stars Caribbean Adventure, which is part of the EPT (seriously), wrapped up at the Atlantis Resort & Casino in the Bahamas on January 10, 2008 with Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier winning the top spot and $2 million.

The ladies weren’t as well represented at the event as we would’ve liked, but those that did make it, made quite an impact. Katja Thater was sitting pretty in the event, but didn’t make bank. She hit the rails before the end of Day 1A. That’s okay – we know “Lady Horror” is always a force to be reckoned with.

Joan Schank, a frequent player qualifier from Miami, was really happy to be in the thick of the action. She brought her hubby and daughter to the event. A real estate investor, Joan really wanted to “win”. However, she, also left the action rather early. Maybe next time, Joan.

Isabelle Mercier, Vanessa Rousso and Annette Obrestad sat down to play on Day 1B. Obrestad didn’t make it past mid-day after being dealt a bad beat. We guess it’s off to Australia and the Crown Casino’s Main Event for the talented Norwegian phenom. Rousso lasted a bit longer than Annette, but didn’t live to see the end of Day 1B.

Kathy Liebert and the aforementioned Mercier were among the ladies who survived into Day 2 along with Wilhelmina Detz and Rosamelia Ferreira, who, at one point, found themselves seated right next to each other. Liebert headed to the cash tables after an early bust-out on Day 2. Mercier also departed on Day 2.

The final two women remaining were Irina Liepina, a Poker Stars qualifier and wife of British pro Steve Jelinek, and Rosamelia Ferreira of Brazil. Both women made bank in the event, earning $16,000 each. Rosamelia was the top female finisher of the event. She departed in 85th position whereas Irina bowed out in 97th.

Congrats to all the ladies who played in the event and to Irina and Rosamelia for cashing in the tournament!
