Top Ten Lady Poker Players of 2007 – JJ Liu
December 29, 2007 - Deanna Goodson
Joanne Jishung “JJ” Liu learned how to gamble as a child growing up in Taiwan. The winner of the WPT’s Ladies Night IV has found her biggest success, to date, on the World Poker Tour. A heavily pregnant JJ, who has two teenage children already, fought it out with Ted Forrest at the Bay 101 Shooting Star tournament in March 2007.
She became the first woman to make it all the way to heads-up play on the WPT. Despite losing the match, the fashionable Liu collected over $600,000 and earned a great deal of respect in the poker world for playing such high level poker. We give her extra props for doing so while with child.
Liu is in the top three of women on the WPT circuit and is amongst the top money earners on the female side at the WSOP. She took 15th place in Event #34 at the World Series this summer and cashed in two events at the Aruba Poker Classic and the Bellagio Five Diamond tournament.
The lady who would like to see “more girl players in the poker tables” is helping to inspire us to get there. We can’t wait to see what trick this quirky fashionista pulls out of her hat next.
JJ Liu talks to Michelle Lewis about some ‘rumors’ regarding her WPT final table appearance here:
