Gavin Griffin Goes All In for Breast Cancer
September 11, 2007 - Deanna Goodson
Gavin Griffin is one of the most talented young guns in the game today. He shot to worldwide fame in 2004, at the tender age of 22, when he became the youngest person ever to win a World Series of Poker bracelet. That summer he won the $3,000 Pot Limit Texas Hold'em tourney.
Earlier this year, he made the final table of the same event. He also won the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo in 2007.
At the time, many people noticed that the affable young man, who's pals include Dustin Sitar, had dyed his blonde locks partially pink. He told the press that he did it in support of a great cause - breast cancer. You see, Gavin's galpal, Kristen Roberts, was diagnosed with the disease at the age of 21. She's a cancer survivor, and the young couple are taking part in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in Los Angeles from September 15 - 16, 2007.
The Avon Walk raises millions of dollars so that medically underserved women and men can be treated for the disease. The Avon Walk also helps fund research that will hopefully find a cure someday.
Gavin and Kristen have dubbed their team "All In". PokerStars, the site that sponsors the EPT, has already donated $15,000 to Avon for the walk. They've also set up a temporary account "Avon Donate" which players can use to add funds to team "All In's" coffers. The internet mega-giant has promised to match those donations dollar for dollar.
To check out on Gavin and Kristen's progress - so far they're at 48% of their $60,000 goal, check out their walk page at:
