EPT Baden - Thater Doesn't Make It Past Day Two
October 11, 2007 - Domenica DiPiero
Before the cards got in the air at the EPT Baden event, there were 282 players ready to take down one of the biggest prizes in European history. These included online sensatoin Annette Obrestad, who at 19, has already won a WSOP bracelet. She was the Main Event winner at last month's WSOP Europe tournament in London.
Katja Svendsen, another young Norwegian lady, was sitting at the tables as well. She qualified for the EPT London tournament and finished in 27th place there, the highest lady finisher. Of course, Vanessa Rousso and Katja Thater, both of whom are Poker Stars sponsored pros, were in attendance as well.
Rousso and Obrestad took the walk of shame within the first two levels, along with 23 other players. The two Katja's were still in the thick of action as the fifth level got underway, although their chip stacks were both below 9,000.
Christina Stadel of Germany and Eva Marianne Ulrika Skoennemark of Sweden all made it to the end of Day 1. Thater was gone by dinner time on Day Two and the remaining ladies didn't appear on the chip counts at the end of that second day when only 40 players remained.
Julian Thew, a 39 year old British professional player, was the last one standing at the EPTevent. He took down €670,800 and an €10,000 entry to the Monte Carlo Grand Final next April for his impressive feat.
