Jose Canseco Plays in Ladies-Only Event
September 19, 2007 - Domenica DiPiero
Perhaps former Baseball player (and admitted steroid user - just read his book "Juiced") Jose Canseco is getting in touch with his 'feminine' side. Maybe he thinks he can actually become a winning poker player if he plays with the ladies. We've seen Jose play at the WSOP Main Event, and well he could use all the help he can get.
Regardless, we're incensed that Mr. Canseco decided to sit down and play in the California State Poker Championship LADIES NLHE tournament held at the Bike earlier this month.
It's not like online where a 'man' can hide behind the internet and play at the ladies' events. It's obvious when the hulking, muscle-bound dude enters the casino, that he ain't no woman.
Apparently, he wasn't the only man who played in the event, which Gabriela Wagner won. Eight other fellas anted up - one of whom, Gerald Foreman, was the event's runner-up. In the end, we're ecstatic that all of these dudes were beat by Ms. Wagner. You go, girl!
How could the casino allow the men to play in the event? Why would the guys want to bash our party?
We just don't get it. Women play in ladies-only events for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is to get better at their game before they take on a mixed-gender field. It's a comfort thing. I mean - many of us go to women-only gyms. Isn't it our right?
The fact that men are infringing upon ladies events makes us more than uncomfortable. In fact, it ticks us off!
Shame on you, Parkway Joe, and any other man who plays in a ladies-only events. Poker tournaments were men-only for decades, perhaps centuries. Why can't we be allowed to have a safe-haven once in a while?
Watch Canseco get whacked off the head with a homerun during his bball days. This hysterical clip makes us feel a little bit better:
