Bodog already had a successful sportsbook and casino up and operating since 1995. They won some darn good awards, too! Because they were doing so well already, they decided to try their hand at the online poker world in 2004. This was how Bodog Poker was born. This is a bold maneuver considering they didn't opt in to a network. Yes - bodogpoker is operating independently. This might explain the lower numbers (900-1100 real money ring game players during peak hours, and 600-900 tournament players respectively). However, BodogPoker.com is a great site; and, I think it will do well since the software is very sleek, fast, and with great playability. You can tell they've dropped some serious cash into the project. The action here is mostly centered around the micro tables of No Limit Holdem, which makes bodogpoker real attractive to beginners looking to get in on the fun without a lot of cash at stake. All in all, there's a very 'hip-feel' at this online poker room.

They've got plenty of variety at Bodog.com, even though the traffic is almost non-existent at some of the less popular online games like 5 and 7 card stud. However, I was always able to get a table started just by sitting down and chillin' for a few moments. That's not bad. Bodog offers a fantastic array of games including Texas Hold'em, Omaha, Omaha Hi-Lo, Seven Card Stud, Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo, and Five Card Stud. Bodog has full-table games, short-handed tables and heads-up offerings.You'll find most the traffic at the micro tables of No Limit Texas Holdem, which is the most popular game of all-time anyway.

Gameplay
If you're looking for micro tables, Bodog.com is the place to play. This is basically their bread-and-butter. They have table stakes starting from $.05/$.10. The stakes don't get above $30/$60 at bodog so this isn't the place for high rollers. All in all beginners will find the tables quite comfortable. Bodog makes it easy for newbies with a handy hand-ranking chart and beginner's strategy section that's available right in the lobby. Play money tables also make it fun to just drop in (go on - download the FREE software) and give it a spin. For the more advanced players, how about brushing up on your skills with their Gentlemen's Guide to Poker (that's just as useful for the ladies) on the website. They've thought of just about everything to Bodogpoker.com!

Bodog.com has some fine software with solid functionality. The site is sleek and sexy looking, not to mention bodogpoker is very easy to use. Bodog's advanced features include: note-taking WHILE you are playing, uploading your very own image to your profile, a detailed hand history in the lobby and vital statistics during your game play. I do have to say that BodogPoker isn't a perfect internet poker room. They don't have hands per hour stats in the lobby. Their website is not the most information-friendly either! I found it required too much detective work to get answers to my basic questions.

Rake
BodogPoker.com offers the industry-standard rake. They also offer a very a no flop, no drop policy in which a rake isn't taken on hands not reaching the flop. Bodog's online poker room has a max rake of $3 starting at $.02. The total rake is dependent upon which table you are at and how many players there are.
