Boris “Boom Boom” Becker first shot to fame as a seventeen year old unseeded player when he won Wimbledon, one of his six Grand Slam championships. The German-born Becker, an Olympic Gold Medalist, became enamored with poker while still playing professional tennis. As he said, “When I was still playing professional tennis, I started learning to play poker casually in-between games because it helped me to improve my concentration.”
Now 40 and a father of three (he has two sons with ex-wife Barbara Feltus and a daughter, whom he recently won joint custody of, with waitress Angela Ermakova), the still-hunky Boris will undergo a training program to improve his game. He hopes to “become really competitive at the highest levels in poker.” With pros like Joe Hachem, Barry Greenstein and Daniel Negreanu to help him hone his game, this new Poker Star is sure to do well.
Becker will compete, along with Team Poker Stars, at the EPT Dortmund Event in January 2008. He wants his first live-action event to be played in his homeland. Becker is also slated to appear at the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo in April 2008.
