Top Ten Lady Poker Players of 2007 – Annie Duke
December 27, 2007 - Deanna Goodson
Annie Duke is always on top. The lovely mom of four – can you believe that – is a true poker shark. Sure, we didn’t like her comments about lady-only tournaments – she thinks they’re not necessary, but we respect her right to say what she feels. Annie also took part in the WSOP Academy’s first female-only seminar that was instrumental in helping Sally Ann Boyer win the 2007 WSOP Ladies NLHE Championship.
Annie teamed up with actor Don Cheadle. Together, they created a special star-studded charity tournament. Called Ante Up for Africa, the tournament was a major success (and is included in this year’s schedule as well), earning tens of thousands of dollars to stop the genocide in Darfur.
Although Annie didn’t make any big tournament scores this year, she did take on Congress in November telling them exactly what she thinks of the UIGEA (ban on internet gaming). As part of the Poker Players Alliance, Annie is not afraid to speak up for poker players’ rights. She is an eloquent, intelligent and fierce spokesperson, one that we are proud to have on our side.
Don’t forget that Annie is still on the top money earners list for the WSOP. The only woman to win the WSOP Tournament of Champions, a feat she accomplished n 2004, Annie is one of the only female poker players to have busted the glass ceiling that still exists in the game. She’s also a fixture on UltimateBet.com having recently helped provide commentary for the UBOC2.
We know that we’ll hear even more from her in 2008. We can’t wait to see what she comes up with next!
Here’s Annie’s testimony in front of Congress. You go, girl:
