Woman Wins WSOPE Main Event
September 17, 2007 - Deanna Goodson
Annette Obrestad is not even nineteen years old yet. She'll turn that magical number in just a few days. The lovely Norwegian teenager with the soulful brown eyes and shy smile recently signed with Betfair Poker, the sponsor of the WSOPE because she wanted to concentrate more on her live game.
Barely a week later, she's atop the poker world with a stunning win at the World Series of Poker Main Event. Annette herself was speechless upon winning. She accepted her trophy from tournament director Jack Effel with her sunglasses still on.
Annette, who has already achieved great success as an online player, becomes the youngest person ever to win a bracelet at the World Series of Poker. She outlasted 361 other players, including folks like Annie Duke, Gus Hansen, Patrik Antonius and Jamie Gold, 2006 WSOP Main Event champ, en route to the title.
Annette is also the only woman to ever win a WSOP Main Event. She has shattered the glass ceiling in an industry and event series long dominated by men. We are so proud of her and can't wait to see what this girl has in store for the poker world next.
Final table results:
1) Annette Obrestad - £1,000,000
