Top Ten Lady Poker Players of 2007 – Annette Obrestad
December 31, 2007 - Deanna Goodson
Annette Obrestad is only 19 years old. She’s been playing poker for less than five years. The Norwegian femme phenom famously took down a 180 person MTT (Multi-Table Tournament) this past summer without once looking at her hole cards. She’s scary good.
Having burst onto the live action scene recently due to her age, Annette smashed the glass ceiling practically out the gate. In March 2007, she finished fifth in the €500 No Limit Hold'em event at the EPT Grand Final. She then finished strong in two Pot Limit Omaha events, one at the PaddyPower Irish Poker Open and another at the EPT Barcelona.
In between these two cashes, the lovely brown-eyed teenage found time to win the big one at Full Tilt Poker. On August 5, 2007 she took the title and more than $117,000 at the site’s $500,000 Guarantee.
A little over a month later, Annette would shock and delight the poker world by winning the big one. Yes, Annette won the World Series of Poker Europe Main Event. She became the youngest bracelet winner ever and the only woman to win a WSOP Main Event, receiving more than $2,000,000 for her efforts.
Then, in early November, Annette came in second at the EPT Dublin tournament. She was “disappointed” that she didn’t win after holding a massive chip lead and vowed to take some time off. During that time, she’s continued to play online and picked up an award from Poker Europa for the tournament performance of the year.
Annette says that she’ll be heading Down Under for the Aussie Millions in early 2008. Her eyes are on the title, and we are certain that if anyone can do it, Annette can.
Congrats, Annette, for making 2007 a breakthrough year for all chicks with chips.
